On Sunday the DCS: F-14 was officially announced, to be released sometime this winter. It’s a 100% realistic F-14 simulator with every switch, button, and system functional. Both the front and back seats are playable and it can be flown solo with a competent AI RIO. All of the planes in DCS World are really good but it looks like this one will raise the bar even higher.

Oh, and it’s also VR compatible!  

Double oh! The MiG-28 (AKA F-5) is already in the game so there will no doubt be Top Gun recreations.

Since we are broaching a certain subject, I’ll pass along my notes.

Tom Cruise has been at Lemoore Naval Air Station filming Top Gun 2. According to the people I know, who were in some footage that may or may not make it into the movie, Tom is a dick to work with.

That’s all I’ve got to share thus far.

I feel quite strongly that there is a window after a movie is made to make a sequel. Independence Day 2 and Top Gun 2 are so far outside that window that it is so blatantly a desperate cash grab by the studios and makes them look quite pathetic.

They’re too afraid to take risks with original movies so they try to rip off their own movies that have been dead for 20-30 years.

We’re getting the A and B variants, the A is just coming a little bit later. I guess the D wasn’t in Top Gun so it isn’t as iconic. And its systems I presume are a lot different. 

The DCS community in my experience has been quite mature and welcoming of lower skilled pilots. I’m terrible and the group that I’ve flown with a couple times doesn’t seem to care.
